A Jewett Builders crew lowered the 1849 barn on new sills after elevating it two years ago for repair. Carpenters will finish sheathing, replace clapboards and put down a new floor over the next few weeks, according to Tom Desjardin, the historian for the state Bureau of Parks and Lands. “It was nice to see it hit the ground,” Desjardin said of the barn coming to rest.

Since retiring from Hussey’s General Store two years ago, Plummer keeps busy picking produce and cultivating flowers. She likes to steam the roots of Dandelions and serve them with biscuits. “I have enough for myself,” she said of her days labor.
