Curtis Jewett tosses a strap around a 40 foot beam he removed from the barn at the Major Reuben Colburn House in Pittston. A Jewett Builders crew lowered the 1849 barn on new sills after elevating it two years ago for repair. Carpenters will finish sheathing, replace clapboards and put down a new floor over the next few weeks, according to Tom Desjardin, the historian for the state Bureau of Parks and Lands. “It was nice to see it hit the ground,” Desjardin said of the barn coming to rest.
